The author:
R K Narayan (1906-2001) is one of the leading figures of early Indian literature in English. His notable works include Malgudi Days and The Guide. He was awarded the Sahitya Academy award in 1958 for The Guide.
আর কে নারায়ণ (1906-2001) ইংরেজিতে প্রাথমিক ভারতীয় সাহিত্যের অন্যতম প্রধান ব্যক্তিত্ব। তার উল্লেখযোগ্য কাজের মধ্যে রয়েছে Malgudi Days এবং The Guide। 1958 সালে The Guide এর জন্য তিনি সাহিত্য একাডেমি পুরস্কারে ভূষিত হন।

The text:
The story, an edited excerpt from Malgudi Days, is about a young boy called Swaminathan who is unwilling to go to school, but is forced by his father to attend school. The story explores how, through the events that follow, Swami's original reservations about his teacher, Samuel, get transformed considerably.
Malgudi Days-এর একটি সম্পাদিত অংশ, পাঠের গল্পটি যা স্বামীনাথন নামে একটি অল্প বয়স্ক ছেলের সম্পর্কে, যে স্কুলে যেতে ইচ্ছুক নয়।কিন্তু তার বাবা তাকে স্কুলে যেতে বাধ্য করেন । গল্পটিতে ধীরে ধীরে উন্মোচিত হয় কিভাবে, পরবর্তী ঘটনাগুলির মাধ্যমে, তার শিক্ষক স্যামুয়েল সম্পর্কে স্বামীর মূল সন্দেহ ও ভ্রান্ত ধারণা গুলো যথেষ্ট পরিবর্তিত হয়।
यह कहानी, Malgudi Days का एक संपादित अंश, स्वामीनाथन नामक एक युवा लड़के के बारे में है जो स्कूल जाने के लिए तैयार नहीं है, लेकिन उसके पिता द्वारा स्कूल जाने के लिए मजबूर किया जाता है। कहानी इस बात की पड़ताल करती है कि कैसे, आगे की घटनाओं के माध्यम से, स्वामी के अपने शिक्षक, सैमुअल के बारे में मूल आरक्षण, महत्वपूर्ण रूप से परिवर्तित हो जाते हैं।

Lying in bed, Swami realized with a shudder that it was Monday morning.

बिस्तर पर लेटे स्वामी कांपते हुए महसूस किया कि सोमवार की सुबह थी।
It looked as though only a moment ago it was Friday.
দেখে মনে হচ্ছিল মাত্র কিছুক্ষণ আগেও ছিল শুক্রবার।
ऐसा लग रहा था जैसे कुछ देर पहले ही शुक्रवार हो।
Already Monday was here.
ইতিমধ্যে সোমবার এসে গেছে।
सोमवार पहले ही आ चुका है।
He hoped he didn't have to go to school.
সে আশা করলো তাকে যেন স্কুলে যেতে না হয়।
उसे उम्मीद थी कि उसे स्कूल नहीं जाना पड़ेगा।
At 9 o'clock Swaminathan wailed,” I have a headache”.
9 টার দিকে স্বামীনাথন চিৎকার করে বলল, "আমার মাথা ব্যথা করছে"।
सुबह करीब नौ बजे स्वामीनाथन चिल्लाए, "मेरे सिर में दर्द है।"
Mother generously suggested that Swami might stay at home.
মা উদারভাবে পরামর্শ দিলেন যে স্বামী বাড়িতে থাকতে পারে।
मां ने उदारता से सुझाव दिया कि स्वामी घर पर ही रहे।
At 9:30 when he ought to have been in the school prayer hall, Swami was lying on the bench in mother’s room.
9:30 তে যখন তার স্কুলের প্রার্থনা কক্ষে থাকা উচিত ছিল, তখন স্বামী মায়ের ঘরে বেঞ্চে শুয়ে ছিল।
सुबह 9:30 बजे जब वह स्कूल के प्रार्थना कक्ष में जाने वाली थी, तो स्वामी अपनी मां के कमरे में एक बेंच पर लेटा हुआ था।
Father asked him, “Have you no school today?”
বাবা তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, "আজ তোমার স্কুল নেই?"
पिताजी ने उससे पूछा, "आज तुम्हारे पास स्कूल नहीं है?"
“Headache,” Swami replied.
"মাথা ব্যাথা," স্বামী উত্তর দিলো।
"सिरदर्द," स्वामी ने उत्तर दिया।
“Nonsense! Dress up and go.”
"কি বাজে বকছো! পোশাক পরে তৈরী হও আর যাও।"
"बकवास! तैयार हो जाओ और जाओ।"
“Headache!”
"মাথা ব্যাথা!"
"सिरदर्द!"
“Loaf about less on Sundays and you will be without a headache on
Monday.”
“রবিবার গুলোতে কম ঘোরা ঘুরি করো তাহলে সোমবার তোমার মাথা ব্যথা থাকবে না।"
"रविवार को कम घुमाएँ और आप बिना सिरदर्द के रहेंगे
सोमवार।"
Swami knew how strict his father could be.
স্বামী জানতো তার বাবা কতটা কঠোর হতে পারেন।
स्वामी जानता था कि उसके पिता कितने कठोर हो सकते हैं।
So he changed his tactics.
তাই সে তার কৌশল পরিবর্তন করলো।
इसलिए उन्होंने अपनी रणनीति बदली।
“I can’t go so late to the class”
"আমি ক্লাসে এত দেরি করে যেতে পারি না"
"मैं इतनी देर से क्लास में नहीं जा सकता।"
“You’ll have to. It is your own fault.”
"তোমাকে যেতেই হবে। এটা তোমার নিজের দোষ।"

“What will the teacher think if I go so late?”
"আমি এত দেরিতে গেলে শিক্ষক কী ভাববেন?"
"अगर मैं इतनी देर से गया तो शिक्षक क्या सोचेंगे?"
“Tell him you had a headache and so are late.”
"তাকে বোলো যে তোমার মাথা ব্যথা ছিল এবং তাই দেরি হয়ে গেছে।"
"उसे बताएं कि आपको सिरदर्द था और इसलिए देर हो चुकी है।"
“He will scold me if I say so.”
"আমি বললে সে আমাকে তিরস্কার করবে।"

“Will he? Let us see. What is his name?”
