The author:
R K Narayan (1906-2001) is one of the leading figures of early Indian literature in English. His notable works include Malgudi Days and The Guide. He was awarded the Sahitya Academy award in 1958 for The Guide.
আর কে নারায়ণ (1906-2001) ইংরেজিতে প্রাথমিক ভারতীয় সাহিত্যের অন্যতম প্রধান ব্যক্তিত্ব। তার উল্লেখযোগ্য কাজের মধ্যে রয়েছে Malgudi Days এবং The Guide। 1958 সালে The Guide এর জন্য তিনি সাহিত্য একাডেমি পুরস্কারে ভূষিত হন।

The text:
The story, an edited excerpt from Malgudi Days, is about a young boy called Swaminathan who is unwilling to go to school, but is forced by his father to attend school. The story explores how, through the events that follow, Swami's original reservations about his teacher, Samuel, get transformed considerably.
Malgudi Days-এর একটি সম্পাদিত অংশ, পাঠের গল্পটি যা স্বামীনাথন নামে একটি অল্প বয়স্ক ছেলের সম্পর্কে, যে স্কুলে যেতে ইচ্ছুক নয়।কিন্তু তার বাবা তাকে স্কুলে যেতে বাধ্য করেন । গল্পটিতে ধীরে ধীরে উন্মোচিত হয় কিভাবে, পরবর্তী ঘটনাগুলির মাধ্যমে, তার শিক্ষক স্যামুয়েল সম্পর্কে স্বামীর মূল সন্দেহ ও ভ্রান্ত ধারণা গুলো যথেষ্ট পরিবর্তিত হয়।
यह कहानी, Malgudi Days का एक संपादित अंश, स्वामीनाथन नामक एक युवा लड़के के बारे में है जो स्कूल जाने के लिए तैयार नहीं है, लेकिन उसके पिता द्वारा स्कूल जाने के लिए मजबूर किया जाता है। कहानी इस बात की पड़ताल करती है कि कैसे, आगे की घटनाओं के माध्यम से, स्वामी के अपने शिक्षक, सैमुअल के बारे में मूल आरक्षण, महत्वपूर्ण रूप से परिवर्तित हो जाते हैं।
Swami hoped that with this
his father would be made to see why he must avoid school for the day.

But father's behavior took
to an unexpected turn.

No amount of protest
from Swami would make him change his mind.
স্বামীর দিক থেকে কোনো রকম প্রতিবাদই তাকে তার মন পরিবর্তন করতে পারবে না।
By the time Swami was ready
to leave for school, Father had composed a long letter to the headmaster.
যখন স্বামী স্কুলে যাওয়ার জন্য প্রস্তুত হচ্ছিলো, তখন বাবা প্রধান শিক্ষকের কাছে একটি দীর্ঘ চিঠি লিখলেন।
He put it in an envelope
and sealed it.
একটা খামে পুড়ে তিনি সেটাকে সিল মেরে দিলেন।
“What have you written,
father?” Swami asked apprehensively.
"কি লিখেছো বাবা?" স্বামী শঙ্কিত স্বরে জিজ্ঞাসা করলো।
“Nothing for you. Give it
to your headmaster and go to your class.”
"তোমার জন্য কিছু না। তোমার প্রধান শিক্ষককে এটা দাও এবং তোমার ক্লাসে যাও।"
“Have you written anything
about our teacher Samuel?”
"আপনি কি আমাদের শিক্ষক স্যামুয়েল সম্পর্কে কিছু লিখেছেন?"
“Yes. Plenty of things.”
"হ্যাঁ. অনেক কিছু।”
“What has he done, Father?”
"তিনি কি করেছেন, বাবা?"
“Everything is there in the
letter. Give it to your headmaster.”
“চিঠিতে সবই আছে। তোমার প্রধান শিক্ষককে দাও।"
Swami went to school
feeling that he was the worst boy on earth.
স্বামী স্কুলে গেলো এটা অনুভব করতে করতে যে সে পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে খারাপ ছেলে।
His conscience
bothered him.
তার বিবেক দংশন হচ্ছিলো।
He wasn't at all sure if
his description of Samuel had been accurate.

He felt he had mixed up the
real and the imagined.

Personally, he was much
more friendly than the other teachers.

Samuel’s dark face, his thin moustache, unshaven cheek and yellow coat
filled Swaminathan with sorrow.
স্যামুয়েলের কথা মনে করতেই- তার কালো মুখ, পাতলা গোঁফ, দাড়ি না কামানো গাল এবং হলুদ কোট - স্বামীনাথনের মন দুঃখে ভরে গেলো।

पति को उम्मीद थी कि यह उसके पिता को समझाएगा कि उसे उस दिन के लिए स्कूल से क्यों बचना पड़ा। लेकिन पिता के व्यवहार ने अप्रत्याशित मोड़ ले लिया। उसने अपने पति के साथ प्रधानाध्यापक को एक पत्र भेजने की पेशकश की। उसके पति का कोई भी विरोध उसका मन नहीं बदल सकता।
जब पति स्कूल जाने के लिए तैयार हो रहा था, पिता ने प्रधानाध्यापक को एक लंबा पत्र लिखा। उसने एक लिफाफा जला दिया और उसे सील कर दिया।
"क्या लिखा है पापा?" पति ने भयभीत स्वर में पूछा।
"आपके लिए कुछ नहीं। इसे अपने प्रधानाध्यापक को दे दो और अपनी कक्षा में जाओ।"
"क्या आपने हमारे शिक्षक सैमुअल के बारे में कुछ लिखा है?"
"हाँ बहुत।"
"उन्होंने क्या किया, पिताजी?"
"पत्र में सब कुछ है। इसे अपने प्रधानाध्यापक को दे दो।"
पति यह जानकर स्कूल गया कि वह दुनिया का सबसे बुरा लड़का है। उसका विवेक चुभ रहा था। वह निश्चित नहीं था कि सैमुअल का उसका विवरण सटीक था या नहीं। उसने महसूस किया कि उसने वास्तविक और कल्पना को मिश्रित किया है।
शमूएल के बारे में मन बनाने के लिए पति सड़क के किनारे रुक गया।शमूएल इतना बुरा आदमी नहीं था। व्यक्तिगत रूप से वे अन्य शिक्षकों की तुलना में बहुत अधिक मिलनसार थे। उसके पति ने भी सोचा कि शमूएल उसके लिए एक विशेष भावना रखता है।
